‘What an addition that would be!’ – Derby fans excited by potential deal

Derby County began their 2017/18 Championship campaign with a 1-1 draw at Sunderland on Friday night.

Gary Rowett’s men have been widely tipped by many to challenge for promotion to the Premier League this term, and gave themselves the perfect start at the Stadium of Light as Bradley Johnson struck them into an 11th minute lead.

Yet they were to be denied an opening day victory as new Black Cats forward Lewis Grabban levelled matters from the penalty spot three minutes before half time, and although both sides had chances to win it, they had to settle for a share of the spoils.

Nonetheless, it gives Rowett and his Rams side a solid foundation from which to build this term, although the former Birmingham and Burton chief will likely be eyeing up further additions to his squad, and is reportedly interested in a move for Everton’s Ademola Lookman.

The 19-year-old moved to Goodison Park back in January this year after excelling at Charlton Athletic, and he made his intentions clear by netting just a minute into his Premier League debut in their 4-0 thrashing of Manchester City on January 15.

Yet Lookman earned just three starts under Ronald Koeman in the second half of last season, and after several substitute roles during pre-season as well, it doesn’t appear that he’s at the forefront of the Dutchman’s plans for the 2017/18 campaign.

And Derby are reportedly seeking to take advantage of that by landing him on loan for the season, a move which has generated quite the reaction from Rams supporters on Twitter.

And it’s fair to say that many would be thrilled if Lookman made the move to the iPro Stadium…
