The autopsy into Sunderland's failure to bounce back to the Championship at the first attempt continues, with manager Jack Ross reflecting on the Black Cats failing to see-off Charlton Athletic in the League One play-off final at the weekend.

The spotlight is bound to fall on striker Will Grigg, who was signed by Ross in January for £4 million, but who failed to score the goals he was signed for, with a return of five goals in 22 appearances in all competitions.

So has Grigg been the biggest transfer flop of the season?

We discuss.........

George Dagless

"No but he has struggled.

"Next season he could bounce back and I don't think he's been helped by a conservative Jack Ross.

"Get more chances to him and he could rediscover some form next year."

George Brooks

"Possibly.

"When Will Grigg signed for Sunderland for £4million on transfer deadline day in January, he was expected to provide the goals to fire the team back to the Championship.

"Once you have a price tag like that attached to your name, expectations suddenly become a lot higher and Grigg simply failed to deliver on what was expected of him."

Jacob Potter

"What a waste of time this has been.

"For all of the talk that was surrounding this transfer in January’s Deadline Day, he has certainly flopped.

"Grigg needs to step up next season, otherwise I really wouldn’t be surprised to see him move on to a new club in the future. If he can find his confidence again, I have no doubt that he could be the man to fire the Black Cats back into the Championship next season though."
