Bristol City midfielder Korey Smith made his injury comeback for the club's Under-23 side on Monday afternoon as he was named in the starting line-up for their clash with Cardiff.

Smith has not featured for Lee Johnson's side since suffering an injury during their clash with Reading back in April, while he has played a total of just 146 minutes since suffering ligament damage back in August 2018.

This has meant the 27-year-old has been unable to contribute during the Robins' solid start to the campaign, which has taken them to sixth in the table heading into the final international break of 2019.

However, it now appears that Smith's long-awaited return to the first-team fold may not be too far away following this latest development in his recovery, and he could be in contention to feature against Nottingham Forest after the two-week break.

The Robins shared news of Smith's injury return via their Twitter account on Monday:

Plenty of Bristol City fans responded to this tweet with many of them expressing their delight at the return of Smith, while others also commented on the overall strength of the side with other senior players such as Rodri, Antoine Semenyo and Taylor Moore also featuring.
