Erik Alonso's proposed takeover of Derby County has been plunged into real uncertainty, as per the Daily Mail.

Alonso reached an agreement to take over from Mel Morris last month, however is still awaiting approval from the EFL.

The takeover of the club would also include the purchase of Pride Park, after being treated as two separate deals when Morris tried to reach an agreement with the Derventio Holdings group last year.

But according to the Daily Mail, Alonso is looking to refinance Pride Park in a bid to fund the deal to take over the club, leaving the takeover in jeopardy.

Whilst Alonso has provided proof of funds, it is claimed that he does not intend to use those to complete the purchase of Derby, and instead wants to borrow against the stadium.

It is also claimed that Alonso, who is a football agent, suggested six players for Derby to target for transfer this summer, with five of those ineligible for a UK work permit.

Derby need to defeat Sheffield Wednesday this weekend to secure their place in the Championship, but with their on-field future looking uncertain, their off-field status is also completely up in the air.
