Stoke City are believed to be leading the chase for Wigan's Nick Powell, who is out of contract this summer.

The former Manchester United man scored eight goals for the Latics as they preserved their status in the Championship, which came off the back of a magnificent year in League One.

Such form over the past two years has caught the eye and there were a lot of clubs linked with the 25-year-old. However, Stoke-On-Trent Live suggest that the Potters will bring Powell in this summer.

Nathan Jones is expected to oversee a major rebuilding job after taking over mid-season, so would the Wigan man be a good addition to the squad?

Here our writers take a look...

Toby Wilding

"This would be a good signing for Stoke.

"His creativity and own eye for goal could go some way to improving what was a dismal goals tally in their first season back in the Championship, so The Potters will surely be pleased to win the race for his signature.

"With this also being on a free transfer, it's a great bit of business by Stoke."

George Harbey

"What a signing this would be for Stoke City if they managed to seal the deal.

"Powell has been exceptional for Wigan over the last few years, and has really stepped up to the plate this season for Paul Cook’s side, contributing to plenty of goals.

"Jones liked using a number 10 at Luton, and he would be a perfect addition for the Potters."

Chris Gallagher

"This would be a big statement signing for Stoke.

"Powell is a top player at this level when he's fit, so to get him on a free transfer would be great business and it also shows he is excited about the plans Jones has in place for the club.

"Their lack of goals towards the end of the season was embarrassing and Powell would seriously help solve that problem."
