Many Portsmouth fans have responded enthusiastically to the announcement of a new signing.

Striker Ellis Harrison has signed on three-year deal from Ipswich, the club has confirmed.

Harrison has played 16 games in the Championship this season, coming on seven times from the bench and scoring one goal.

There has been a fairly lacklustre response from the Portsmouth fans. Many have joked about being pretending to be shocked due to the rumours linking him before.

He has played the majority of his football for Bristol Rovers, where he scored 49 goals in 204 games.

Signing on a three-year deal, the Welshman has apparently been on the club's eyes for around 18 months.

Assistant manager Joe Gallen said: “We’re really pleased to get Ellis here – he’s someone we’ve kept tabs on for around 18 months now.

“We’ve always liked him as a player. He can fit into our system as a number nine and hold the ball up, win headers and score goals.

From the fan responses, apart from the jokes about pretending to be surprised, there has been mixed feelings.

Some fans have sarcastically argued that his record isn't good enough, with only one goal in 16, calling it an"unreal striker" and Ipswich's "fourth choice", while others have told the fans to give him a chance and asking for "optimism".
