Aston Villa shocked the footballing world in the summer, as they secured a deal for the experienced John Terry.

The defender is one of the most recognised players in the game, and it was a real coup for the Villans to seal a deal for the former Chelsea player.

Terry has been an ever-present figure in Bruce's team this season, and he'll be looking to guide the Midlands outfit to the Premier League.

Just how good has he been for Villa so far? Was it a masterstroke from Steve Bruce to sign him?

The FLW writers take a look....

Chris Gallagher

Very assured.

After a slow start, the ex-Chelsea man has shown his class. Given his high-profile status, everyone was quick to pick up on the slightest mistake.

There were far bigger concerns for Steve Bruce when the side was struggling but now Terry has come into his own. The clean sheets are frequent, the leadership is still there and it's going just how Villa fans had hoped.

What a signing!

Adam Simeoni

A slow start, but he's improving.

Terry's class is beginning to show, and the former England and Chelsea captain is quietly going about his business in an efficient manner at Villa Park.

The club are on a wonderful run of form, and the partnership Terry has forged with James Chester has to be accredited for some of the success.

He could make all the difference for Villa this year in their promotion hunt.

Alfie Burns

It is no coincidence that since Terry’s arrival Villa have looked like promotion contenders.

The defender is exceptional, from the way he plays his football, to the condition the 36-year-old keeps his body in.

Terry is the ultimate professional, and could prove to be one of Villa’s greatest ever signings if he leads them out of the Championship this season.

He oozes class.

George Dagless

Good but nothing outstanding.

To be fair to Terry he is at the end of his career and Villa fans knew he wasn't going to be at his prime levels this season.

He's starting to force a nice partnership with James Chester at the club now, though, and so I think he's been pretty much par for the course up to this point.
