Blackburn Rovers returned to winning ways on Saturday afternoon in what was their third thumping victory of the campaign - with striker Adam Armstrong once again in the thick of the action.

Tony Mowbray's men had made an excellent start to the Championship season, collecting seven points from their first four league matches.

However, consecutive league defeats saw the Ewood Park outfit drop into the bottom-half of the table.

But Blackburn responded brilliantly against Coventry yesterday, scoring four times for the third time already this season to climb up to 10th-place in the standings, just two points off the top-six.

They were giving a helping hand by the Sky Blues, however, after defender Michael Rose was dismissed inside the opening 15 minutes, conceding a penalty in the process that Armstrong coolly dispatched.

Armstrong notched his second of the afternoon and seventh of the campaign after the break to move level with Brentford's Ivan Toney in the race for the Championship Golden Boot before Harvey Elliott's first professional goal and Sam Gallagher's late strike added gloss to the scoreline.

But the day belonged to Armstrong, who is currently in the form of his career. Having scored 17 in all competitions last season, the former Newcastle United frontman now has eight for the current campaign, and is already a popular figure with the Rovers faithful and they were full of praise for their striker after Saturday's game.
