‘What a player’ – Luciano Becchio makes claim on former Leeds United team-mate

Leeds United have had their fair share of fans favourites over the years at Elland Road, and plenty more players will be hoping to add their name to that list in the near future.

One of their former players that will be fondly remembered for their contributions to the club during a tricky period is Luciano Becchio, who scored 86 goals in 219 appearances for the Whites.

One player that played alongside Becchio whilst with the Yorkshire-based club was Jonny Howson, who was with Leeds’ first-team for six years in total.

Becchio recently took to Instagram to look back at his time playing in the same team as Howson, and issued a heartwarming statement on the midfielder.

Howson is now playing his football with Middlesbrough, who are struggling at the wrong end of the table under the management of former Leeds defender Jonathan Woodgate.

Becchio will be keen to see his former side win a long-awaited promotion back into the Premier League this season, and it’s looking likely that they might do just that.

The Whites are currently sat top of the Championship table, and are seven points clear of third-placed Fulham with just nine games remaining in this year’s campaign.

The Verdict:

They’ll both be remembered well by the Elland Road faithful.

Becchio’s goal record speaks for itself, and he played a key role for Leeds during a difficult period in their history after dropping out of the Premier League and the Championship.

Howson went on to further his career with Norwich City at the time, but now might be regretting it as he looks back on it, with Leeds now edging closer to winning a long-awaited promotion back into the top-flight under Marcelo Bielsa’s guidance.

It does make you wonder if the Whites would be in a better position than they are now if they had Becchio available to them in leading the line.
