Swansea are on the verge of making their second January signing - with Conor Hourihane set to join from Aston Villa, according to The Athletic.

Goalkeeper Ben Hamer signed on a permanent basis from Huddersfield Town last week, and now the Villa midfielder is expected to seal a move to South Wales which will see him spend the remainder of the campaign on loan at the Liberty Stadium.

Hourihane was a regular at Villa Park last term, scoring seven times in 34 appearances in all competitions, but the arrival of Ross Barkley from Chelsea has seen the midfielder pushed down the pecking order this season, restricting him just three Premier League starts.

Hourihane hasn't appeared for Villa since the defeat at West Ham back in November, and is now on the verge of moving to Swansea, who appear to have beaten off competition from the likes of both Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest.

The Swans currently sit second in the Championship standings, and the potential arrival of Hourihane will only strengthen their grip on the automatic promotion places.
