It was always to be expected that following a successful league campaign that resulted in Barnsley gaining promotion from League One, there was always a risk that bigger clubs could look to make a move for their prized assets.

One player who has generated much transfer interest is defender Liam Lindsay, who Barnsley have already received and rejected a £1m bid from Italian outfit Brescia, as per the Scottish Sun.

So were Barnsley right to reject the £1million bid for Lindsay from Brescia?

We discuss........

Kealan Hughes

"This is the right decision from Barnsley.

"He is probably their best defender and he would be difficult to replace - £1 million would not be enough to find someone else of his calibre.

"It is nice reassurance for Tykes fans to have that the club is looking to keep hold of their better players, although it is possible that they are just holding out for a higher bid."

Gary Hutchinson

“Yeah,. He’s worth twice that.

“They were promoted, so as things stand he’s a first team defender from a Championship side.

“That puts him at £2m in my eyes, purely as a starting point.

“Barnsley know as domestic sides begin to get edgey at the end of the month, he could go for £3m or maybe even £4m.

“That’s today’s market for you.”

George Brooks

"I think so.

"Lindsay was an important player for Barnsley last season and played a key role in their promotion from League One.

"Barnsley will do well to keep hold of him this summer, but he is worth more than £1million in today’s market, so it was definitely the right decision to reject the bid.

"If they can keep hold of him, he will no doubt have an important role to play in the Championship next season."

Jacob Potter

"What a ludicrous bid this is.

"Lindsay was one of Barnsley’s best players last season and he is worth far more than the bid from Brescia.

"They should only be considering offers in the region of £3m upwards for the defender, who can go far in English football in my opinion.

"If Barnsley have any ambition, then they’ll do everything they can to keep Lindsay at the club heading into next season, otherwise I fear they could struggle to stay afloat in their first season back in the Championship.

"It’ll be interesting to see if further offers are made for him."
