Bristol City midfielder Korey Smith is expecting a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a knee injury during Saturday's loss to Middlesbrough, announced the club's official website.

It is not yet known how long the 27-year-old will be out for, but will meet with a specialist on Tuesday to assess the damage.

The defensive midfielder moved to Ashton Gate from Oldham Athletic in 2014 and has gone on to be an integral member of Lee Johnson's squad.

Smith joins Hakeeb Adelakun on the sidelines, along with the suspended Famara Diedhiou.

The Robins travel to struggling Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday night as they look to bounce back from Saturday's 2-0 loss to Boro.

Smith's injury has prompted fans to urge the club to dip into the loan market before it shuts at the end of August.
