Just when the football has been doing the talking for Charlton Athletic, more off-the-field antics rear their ugly head.
This time, it’s a real doozy from the club’s owner Roland Duchatelet.
In the latest bizarre move by the estranged Belgian, he has insisted the EFL purchase the League One club from his control.
That is according to the Independent, who are reporting that the Addicks’ estranged owner is demanding the move happen, and has blanked the governing body of the Football League for the club’s recent demise.
Duchatelet issued a lengthy statement on Charlton’s official website yesterday afternoon requesting they purchase control of the club from him, handing over the day-to-day operations of the club
Duchatelet would retain control of the valuable assets, the Valley and the training ground in a move that is nigh on impossible for the League’s body to move forward with.
After the news came out about the outlandish and unfeasible idea from the Charlton owner, we asked our team of FLW writers their thoughts on the news.
Here’s what they had to say on the matter.
“The guy is an idiot.
“It’s impractical, and I am pretty sure it is impossible, too.
“Blaming the EFL for Charlton’s demise then demanding they buy the club is a move from a man void of ideas.
“Luckily Charlton are doing well on the pitch.
“But having the brainless owner they have, they will only go so far.”
“The man is a stain on football.
“He bought the club; he took that responsibility on.
“You don’t buy a dog then demand the vet buys him from you after you neglect him, do you?
“I feel so sorry for their fans.”
“What a joke this is.
“It sums up what a farce of a situation this has been since he’s been in charge.
“His latest statement is absolutely laughable.”
