Ipswich Town head into this weekend’s Old Farm derby right at the bottom of the league and looking rather rudderless.
The Tractor Boys have struggled and it’s been compounded by Norwich being Premier League promotion challengers – a far from welcome sight for them.
It makes you wonder whether they should have kept Mick McCarthy in hindsight, then, which is what we’re discussing here…
“What a huge mistake this was.
“McCarthy was doing an admirable job with an Ipswich side that hardly had much financial backing.
“I said it was a ludicrous decision to sack him at the time, and with the last two managers also struggling, it further emphasises my point.
“Not even Guardiola could get the best out of the current crop of players.”
“A huge mistake.
“Plenty of us said it at the time that they would live to regret the decision and they really have.
“Some Ipswich fans seemed to underestimate the tricky conditions in which McCarthy was operating and what a brilliant job he was actually doing.”
“Mick has a knack of getting the best out of limited players.
“Ipswich stood little chance of a top half finish, but under Mick they were at least competitive.
“The grass isn’t always greener.”
