Arsene Wenger has praised Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa for his decision to allow Aston Villa to score during the Sky Bet Championship clash at the weekend.

Bielsa demanded that his Leeds players allow Villa to equalise, immediately after his side had taken the lead in controversial circumstances through Mateusz Klich.

With Jonathan Kodjia down injured, Leeds initially opted to play on, before Tyler Roberts slowed down and appeared to be about to put the ball out for a throw-in so that Villa forward could receive treatment.

With the Villa defence flat-footed, Roberts played the ball through to Klich, who went on to score, sparking a huge clash between both sets of players, which saw Anwar El Ghazi sent off for the visitors.

Bielsa then ordered his Leeds players to allow Villa to equalise and Albert Adohma was able to run through and put the ball into an unguarded net, despite Pontus Jansson's best efforts to stop him.

Wenger has praised Bielsa for his decision, calling it a 'remarkable gesture' in a game Leeds needed to win to keep their automatic promotion hopes alive.

His comments caused a reaction with Leeds fans on social media, with many of them agreeing with the former Arsenal boss.
