Fulham are looking to bring former loan player Matt Targett back to the club as they try to bounce straight back to the Premier League.

The left-back had a short spell in west London from January 2018, helping Slavisa Jokanovic's side secure promotion through the play-offs after a remarkable second half to the season.

However, he returned to Southampton for the previous campaign and played 16 times, with the experienced Ryan Bertrand ahead of him in the pecking order.

And, according to Sky Sports, Fulham want to sign the player, although the report does state it will take a significant fee to convince the Saints to sell.

So, would he be a good signing for Scott Parker's side?

Our writers take a look...

Jacob Potter

"This would be a really good signing.

"Targett is a player they know well from his previous loan spell at the club, and he would be the ideal replacement for Sessegnon if he departs in the summer.

"A player with real quality, who would go straight into the starting XI for Parker's side."

George Brooks

"This would be a great signing for Fulham.

"Targett is an experienced player and has performed well for Southampton over the past few seasons.

"The left-back spent time on loan at Craven Cottage a couple of seasons ago and played an important role as the Whites won promotion to the Premier League.

"He already knows the club well and should be able to make an impact straight away."

Chris Gallagher

"What a coup this would be.

"Targett was superb for the side when he helped them to promotion two seasons ago and would be a top player in the Championship.

"Despite that, with Joe Bryan currently at the club it's not a position they desperately need to strengthen, particularly given how much the Southampton man would cost.

"But, if they do have him in the side next season then he will probably be the best left-back in the league."
