Fernando Forestieri has completed over 100 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday now and it is fair to say he has been one of their best players in the last three years.

Along with perhaps Barry Bannan, Forestieri has been a consistent performer and always worthy of a goal, despite a season plagued with injuries this time.

The Argentinian star joined from Watford after winning promotion with the Hornets. He has also had stints at many clubs such as Malaga, Udinese, Empoli, Bari, so the feeling was that he could be the sort to not stick around for long.

Here, we use our ‘Timemachine’ feature to have a look at what the feeling was at the time of his arrival, and whether Forestieri’s signing was good…

Jacob Potter

"What a coup!

"Forestieri had been the standout player for Watford for a number of seasons and I was stunned to see them manage to strike a deal for the Italian.

"It was easily one of the best signings they had made in recent seasons.

Gary Hutchinson

"Big investment, but what a player on his day.

"He’s got top-flight class and will surely be a huge influence for them in the coming month.

"He’s got a goal in him, a touch of class on the ball and has no place in the Championship."

Louie Chandler

"100%

"He may have struggled to get into the Watford side once they had been promoted but he had shown the quality he possessed at Championship level.

"Nearly £4million was probably too much."
