Plenty of Derby County fans have taken to Twitter to react to the news that Mason Bennett is reportedly in talks with the club over a new contract.
According to The Telegraph the forward is close to agreeing fresh terms with the Rams with his existing deal set to expire in the summer.
Bennett, who is a product of Derby’s youth academy, has struggled to force his way into manager Phillip Cocu’s starting eleven this season.
Limited to just nine appearances in all competitions, the 23-year-old has yet to score for the Rams.
Bennett’s underwhelming campaign has been overshadowed somewhat by his involvement in a car crash which left former Derby captain Richard Keogh injured and eventually culminated in him pleading guilty to drink-driving in October.
Currently being utilised in the Rams’ Under-23 set-up, the forward will be determined to return to first-team action in the not too distant future.
Given that Derby are currently 17th in the Championship standings, it could be argued that they may need to bolster their squad between now and the end of January if they are to have any chance of reaching the play-offs in May.

Absolutely crazy we are offering a player who offers literally nothing a new contract. Injury prone. Has no position. Goal to games ratio assist to games ratio over his career prove he’s out of his league. Literally.
Can anybody tell me Mason Bennett’s position??#DCFC#dcfcfans

Mason Bennett is about 35 right? Or he’s played about 35 games in 10 years, or something? Not sure this is a drum we should still be banging, the injury record suggests he can’t put a run of games together, unfortunately #DCFC

The only thing I'd offer him is the exit door.
