Nottingham Forest have been strongly linked with a move for Jack Marriott this summer, who is rated at £5m plus add-ons by Peterborough United.

There are a queue of Championship and Scottish Premiership clubs lining up moves for Marriott this summer after an incredible season for Peterborough.

Posh face a battle to keep a number of their star players after missing out on the play-offs and Marriott is expected to leave this summer - at the right price.

Aitor Karanka is looking to bolster his Forest squad and Marriott has been identified as a top target to improve their current options.

Nottingham Forest need to prioritise a move for Marriott this summer to help them push up the table and start competing for the play-offs, rather than floating in mid-table.

Here is what the former Luton Town star could offer the Reds if he joins the club ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.

In Daryl Murphy, Apostolos Vellios and Ben Brereton, Forest have struggled in front of goal.

A prolific striker is needed to launch a promotion bid and Marriott can provide that.

After netting 33 goals in all competitions for Posh this season, Marriott has proved that he knows where the net is and he will surely be able to make the step up to play Championship football next season.

The 23-year-old is still young and he could get better and better as he progresses.

The diminutive forward has had to bide his time and work his way up through the league systems but he has proven his goal scoring prowess at Luton in League Two and Peterborough in League One.

Marriott has the potential to become a Premier League striker if he can continue to rise as he has done and this means that Forest can either go with him to the top flight or make a profit on him in a few years.

Not only do Forest want Marriott from Peterborough, they are also interested in his team-mates Gwion Edwards and Marcus Maddison.

Edwards, 25, is a highly-rated Welsh winger with six goals and three assists this season.

But Maddison, 24, would be an even better signing; the attacking midfielder has been transfer listed so that he can play at a higher level after a staggering tally of 21 assists this term, as well as 10 goals.

If Marriott joins Forest, then Edwards and Maddison might be tempted to follow in his footsteps.
