Speaking to Sheffield United’s official YouTube channel, Billy Sharp has insisted the Blades only need to add a handful of players to their existing squad to compete in the Sky Bet Championship.

Chris Wilder’s side have stormed to promotion and the title in Sky Bet League One this season, with Sharp, the club’s captain, key to the Blades’ success.

Next year will be the first time the Blades have competed in the Championship since 2011, but Sharp insists their squad is filled with quality and masses of investment isn't necessary, he said:

“It’s about time this club moved up a league, I think the Gaffer is going to move us on even further.

“We’ve got a lot of ability, we’ve got players who should be playing in the Championship and players who have played in the Championship with experience.

“If we can add one or two, maybe three, I’m sure we can compete with most teams.”

Sharp bagged his 30th goal of the season in Sunday’s 3-2 victory over Chesterfield at Bramall Lane, a result which helped move Wilder’s side onto 100-points for the campaign.

Bolton Wanderers joined the Blades in securing automatic promotion to the Championship over the weekend, whilst Scunthorpe United, Fleetwood Town, Bradford City and Millwall will compete for promotion via the Play-Offs.
