A suggestion has been made to the FA that would see the season ended early and Coventry City secure promotion to the Championship, which has been well received by many Sky Blues fans.

Mark Robins' side are top of League One as things stand – sitting five points above second-placed Rotherham United with a game in hand over the Millers.

The Midlands club have had their promotion push put on hold, however, as all EFL fixtures have been suspended until at least the 30th of April.

There is real uncertainty over if, how, and when the 2019/20 campaign will be concluded.

The CEO and chairman of National League side Maidenhead United have sent an open letter to the FA, which provides a potential solution to the issue.

Their plan calls for "football to act as one" and would see the rest of the season canceled in all tiers of English professional football.

League winners and promoted sides would be decided using points per game to produce a final table in each division, with the highest-placed side in the play-off places automatically promoted.

Maidenhead's suggested plan would see no sides relegated at any level, which would mean leagues would have to adapt to having more teams next season.

This potential solution `would see Coventry promoted as League One champions but, clearly, would mean they did it without winning it on the pitch.
