West Bromwich Albion don’t have the option to sign Grady Diangana from West Ham United on a permanent basis, with the Hammers also having the opportunity to recall the winger if they wish.

Diangana is at the Hawthorns on loan this season and is thriving under the management of Slaven Bilic, who has overseen an unbeaten start to the Championship season.

The 21-year-old has made six appearances for the Baggies in that start, scoring three goals and assisting two more, adapting to life in the Championship extremely well.

Recently, a report from Claret & Hugh has stated that there is no option for West Brom to turn this loan deal permanent at any time, with West Ham also having the option to recall the winger if they wish.

That’ll be a worry for the Hawthorns faithful, after their promotion hopes took a significant hit following Harvey Barnes’ recall last season.

Barnes had made 26 appearances, scored nine goals and assisted six more for West Brom last season, but was recalled by Leicester in the New Year, which resulted in the Baggies falling away in the automatic promotion race before crashing out of the play-offs at the hands of Aston Villa.

The Verdict

The news that Diangana won’t become a permanent West Brom player in any circumstance is obviously disappointing, but it is the recall option that’ll have West Brom fans a little bit worried.

Losing Barnes really hurt them last season, and given the winger’s start under Bilic so far, Diangana could be just as influential.

West Brom will be praying that history doesn’t repeat itself in the coming transfer window.
