Dean Windass believes that Ivan Toney could move to a club like West Ham if Brentford fail to secure promotion.

The Bees are gearing up for a massive afternoon as they take on Swansea City at Wembley Stadium in the Championship play-off final.

The winners will secure a place in next season's Premier League- a division which will surely be the next step for Ivan Toney.

Toney only arrived at Brentford last summer but has enjoyed a wonderful campaign in which he has scored 32 goals and created 10 more to help the Bees to the cusp of play-off glory.

As a result the striker has attracted plenty of interest from the likes of West Ham and Chelsea ahead of the summer transfer window.

Windass was discussing West Ham's plans this summer and as well as recommending a move for Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke, he added that a player like Toney would be the perfect man to step up to a club like the Hammers.

Speaking to Transfer Tavern, Windass said: “You’d take that all day long.

"Benteke as a squad player, then bring a young striker in to learn off Benteke around the training ground.

“I think Ivan Toney, somewhere like that if Brentford don’t go up, that will be the sort of club he’ll go to, West Ham.”

The verdict

The play-off final is going to be pivotal for Ivan Toney.

The Brentford striker has enjoyed a wonderful season in the Championship and looks set to be playing his football in the Premier League next term - one way or another.

Of course securing promotion with the Bees would be the preference, but if Thomas Frank's side do miss out on going up, there's going to be no shortage of potential suitors.

Whether West Ham will be one of the contenders remains to be seen, but they'd be foolish not to consider a move for the Championship goal-machine.
