Middlesbrough goalkeeper Darren Randolph is set to undergo a second medical at West Ham United ahead of a move, due to his current injury.

The Republic of Ireland international is on the verge of sealing a move back to the Capital with West Ham United, having spent two seasons with the Hammers in the Premier League.

Following his exit from the London Stadium, Randolph joined Middlesbrough and was an instant success, helping the Teessiders towards two separate play-off pushes in his first two seasons, earning him a place in the 2018/19 PFA Championship Team Of The Year.

These performances and subsequent struggle this season at the Riverside, coinciding with West Ham’s ongoing goalkeeper crisis, have led to him moving ever-so-close to securing a move back to the club this month.

Injuries to Lukas Fabianski and David Martin along with the poor form of Roberto have forced David Moyes' hand in the transfer market and Randolph is certainly not far from a move. The ‘keeper hasn’t featured for Jonathan Woodgate’s side since the 2-2 draw against Hull City back in November as he looks to recover from a thigh injury.

This injury is something similar to what the current Hammers ‘keepers are struggling with and now Knees Up Mother Brown are reporting that the Premier League outfit are to conduct a second medical for Randolph to get a more comprehensive diagnosis over his condition ahead of confirming the move.

This medical does not appear as if it could scupper to prospective move for Randolph, but more of a precaution ahead of sealing the deal.

How much do you remember about Boro's season so far?

The Verdict

This is a wise move by West Ham to make sure that they know just what recovery process they are dealing with for Randolph, rather than seeing him arrive not knowing just how severe his injury could be.

There is no doubting that Moyes needs to strengthen his goalkeeping options with Fabianski the only player proving his quality, but currently suffering with injuries more often than not.
