West Ham United have made a move for Preston North End defender Ben Davies, according to Football Insider.

The Hammers are reportedly keen to bring in another defender before the end of the transfer window, having also been linked with Watford's Craig Dawson.

Davies is also said to be attracting interest from West Ham, with the 25-year-old establishing himself as a key player for the past few years for North End.

Davies has made huge strides of improvements since returning from a loan spell with Fleetwood Town in 2017, and he has since became one of the best centre-backs in the Championship.

Davies has less than a year left on his contract at Deepdale, but is reportedly valued at a price of around £10million amid interest from the likes of Bournemouth, Celtic and Sheffield United.

According to reports from Football Insider, West Ham have made contact over a move for Davies, as David Moyes looks to bolster his defensive ranks.

The Verdict

I think that Davies would fit seamlessly into life in the Premier League.

Ball-playing left-sided centre-backs are hard to come by nowadays, but Davies is a physical presence who would add real quality to the Hammers' backline.

He is dominant in the air, very comfortable on the ball, and would add real presence and leadership to the defensive line.

He'd be an astute signing for West Ham, but I think £10million would be a lot for him given the short amount of time left on his contract.
