West Ham are set to confirm the signing of Middlesbrough goalkeeper Darren Randolph in the next 48 hours according to The Athletic.

Randolph has been a key member of Middlesbrough's squad this season, and it's clear to see that his performances this term haven't gone unnoticed.

West Ham have had their fair share of goalkeeping issues though, and they've targeted Randolph as the ideal shot-stopper to challenge Łukasz Fabiański for his starting spot in the future.

David Moyes' side are currently sat 16th in the Premier League table, but have shown improvement under the former Everton boss, which includes a 2-0 win over Gillingham in the FA Cup on Sunday evening.

It could be a potentially hectic but interesting January transfer window ahead of the Hammers, as they look to make the necessary additions to their squad in the hope of pulling clear of the relegation zone in the top-flight.

It remains to be seen as to how much West Ham are set to pay Middlesbrough to land Randolph's signature, but it had previously been revealed by Sky Sports that they had a bid rejected by the Championship club for the 32-year-old.

If this report from The Athletic is believed to be true, then Randolph could well be in the squad to take on Sheffield United in the Premier League on Friday in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

How much can you remember about Middlesbrough's 2017/18 season?

The Verdict:

This is the safe option for the Hammers in my opinion.

Randolph knows the club well having previously played for them, and I think he's a good enough backup option to have to Łukasz Fabiański for the remainder of this year's campaign.

Middlesbrough will know that they need to find an adequate replacement for the experienced shot-stopper, as I'm not convinced that Aynsley Pears is up to the job so early into his professional career.
