The Hammers are intending to bring in Marcus Bettinelli from Fulham during the summer, according to the Daily Mail.

Bettinelli has only made 25 league appearances this season because he had to win his place back from David Button even though he was in goal for the play-offs last season. Although an injury at the start of the season did play a part in this.

The two have been fighting for the starting role ever since Button joined in 2016 with Button winning in that regard because he has made 60 appearances over the past two seasons, whereas, Bettinelli has made 33.

However, the 25-year-old has made the role his own since December and is starting to attract interest from other clubs. His record is impressive because he has 12 clean sheets, so he is averaging just under one every two games.

Fulham's control of games contributes to that, but he still has to bail them out every so often.

The Verdict

This move seems highly dependent on whether Fulham achieve promotion this season because it would be strange for Bettinelli to move to a Premier League side, when he is currently the starter at Fulham, if they did get promoted.

Slavisa Jokanovic's encouragement of competition for the goalkeeping position could work against him here, though, because Bettinelli is likely to be West Ham's undisputed starter, which could just appeal to him even if the Cottagers do achieve promotion.
