Premier League side West Ham United are in talks with Sheffield United over a £4 million move for midfielder John Fleck, according to reports from Sky Sports.

The 27-year old has been mightily impressive for Chris Wilder's men since his move on a free transfer from Coventry City in 2016, and has since made 120 appearances for the Blades.

The Scottish midfielder was instrumental in the Yorkshire club's promotion from League One in 2016/17, and has been a mainstay for Chris Wilder ever since, making 29 appearances in all competitions for United this term.

But after a string of impressive displays for the Blades, reports have now surfaced that Premier League side West Ham United are in talks with the Blades over a possible £4million move for Fleck.

This could potentially come as a bit of a shock for United - Fleck has been a key cog in the Blades midfield this season, and has been integral in their push up the Championship table. The midfielder was also named as United's Player of the Year last term, and still has three-and-a-half years remaining on his deal at Bramall Lane.

Wilder's men currently sit 3rd in the Sky Bet Championship table, three points off the automatic promotion places, after drawing 2-2 with promotion rivals Norwich City at the weekend.

The Verdict

It would baffle me if Fleck is sold to be quite honest.

Not only is £4million an absolute bargain for a player of his quality, but he has been so important for United over the last few years.

Wilder isn't one to make some rash decisions, but this could be a massive mistake by the Blades.
