West Ham United striker Oladapo Afolayan is wanted by League Two side Mansfield Town, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

The 21-year-old centre-forward is yet to make his first-team debut for West Ham and spent last season on loan in League Two with Oldham Athletic, where he made ten appearances in the fourth tier.

Afolayan joined West Ham from non-league Solihull Moors on transfer deadline day in January 2018, after scoring 16 goals in 38 matches for the National League side.

Nixon revealed on Twitter, that Mansfield are working on a deal to sign the attacker before the transfer deadline for lower league clubs closes on Monday.

Mansfield are currently 14th in the League Two table after taking six points from their opening five matches and face Exeter City in their next game at the weekend.

Manager John Dempster is looking to add to his attacking options before the transfer deadline next week.

The Verdict

This could be a decent signing for Mansfield. Afolayan is obviously a player with some potential, otherwise he wouldn't be at a big club like West Ham.

With that said, there's no way he's going to get a chance in the first team at West Ham this season, so sending him out on loan will hopefully allow him to gain some valuable experience, which is key for his development.

He's a quick, direct centre-forward with an eye for goal, so he should be able to make an impact in League Two.

The striker has already got a little bit of experience in League Two from his time at Oldham last season, so he should be able to cope with the physical demands of the division.
