West Ham United midfielder Josh Cullen is expected to join Charlton Athletic today on a season-long loan.

According to a tweet from sports journalist Peter O’Rourke, the 22-year-old is set to join the ranks at the London Stadium on a one-year deal.

The tweet stated: “West Ham midfielder Josh Cullen is set to join Charlton on loan today. #whufc #cafc”.

Cullen spent the early stages of last season on loan at Championship side Bolton Wanderers, but returned to the Hammers in the second half of the season, where he made just two Premier League starts.

But, following the arrival of Jack Wilshere and the emergence of Declan Rice, the young central midfielder looks set to miss out of game time throughout the 2018/19 campaign at West Ham.

Charlton Athletic, who have been making headlines off the pitch more so than on, have started the League One somewhat averagely, picking up five points from as many matches, and currently sit 14th in the league table.

The Verdict

Josh Cullen could potentially be a very strong addition to Lee Bowyer’s side for their League One season.

The young midfielder has had both Premier League and Championship experience in the last couple of years, but is in desperate need of a regular run in the first team at a club.

Charlton Athletic are a team that could go either way this season – with some stability and coherence in their ranks, they could have success with their young squad, but equally could fall down the table if the unrest continues.
