West Ham looked at the possibility of a move for Brentford midfielder Josh Dasilva, reliable journalist @ExWHUemployee has claimed.
The Hammers are seemingly in the market for a new midfielder before the domestic transfer window closes on Friday, and it seems Dasilva has emerged as a potential target for the Premier League club.
Speaking on The West Ham Way podcast about possible targets for the club in the final few days of the market, the West Ham insider name-checked as a potential candidate, as he said: “Another player from Brentford that we like is Josh Dasilva. He’s actually the Ilford lad, he used to play for Arsenal Academy, he’s an England Under-21 player.
"He’s a good player for Brentford, central midfielder. He’s someone that we also have looked at.
Indeed it seems as though the Bees are a club who have attracted plenty of attention from West Ham recently - Said Benrahma has also been linked - with the journalist going on to add: “So, there are a number of players from Brentford. I’ve said many times we’ve scouted players from there.”
Last season, Dasilva scored ten goals and provided four assists in 45 Championship appearances for Brentford as they reached the play-off final, only to miss out on promotion to the Premier League after defeat to Fulham.
Even so, the midfielder only put pen to paper on a new long term contract with Brentford earlier this week, securing his future with the club until the end of the 2023/24 season.
The Verdict
Dasilva would be a decent signing for West Ham.
The Hammers do seem to be in the market for a midfielder this summer, and the 21-year-old has shown that he has the ability and potential to step up to the Premier League in the future.
However, with Dasilva only signing that new contract with Brentford earlier this week, the Bees are under absolutely no pressure to sell the midfielder any time soon, while the fact he has signed that deal suggests the player himself is happy at the club for the time being.
As a result, it feels as though it would take a huge offer from West Ham to have any chance of getting this deal done, and looking at how things have gone for them in terms of business so far this summer, you wonder if that is something they would be willing to do.
