West Ham United are hopeful of completing five new signings soon, including Swansea City pair Lukasz Fabianski and Alfie Mawson, The Daily Mail reports.

The Hammers are close to five new arrivals as Manuel Pellegrini eyes a major summer overhaul.

West Ham are edging closer with deals to sign Fabianski and Mawson, as well as Issa Diop, Felipe Anderson and Marlon Santos.

With Winston Reid suffering constant injuries, Reece Burke and Reece Oxford's futures in doubt, and James Collins following Jose Fonte out the exit door, Pellegrini wants at least two new centre-halves to compete with Declan Rice and Angelo Ogbonna.

West Ham hope to sign Mawson soon as the 24-year-old was a solid performer for the Swans last year despite relegation.

The England hopeful could cost £20m while Fabianski, currently away with Poland at the World Cup, is thought to cost £7m after the 33-year-old won the Player of the Year accolade at The Liberty Stadium.

West Ham are eyeing two other centre-backs as well as Mawson with a £22m swoop for Toulouse's France under-21 international Diop being discussed.

Barcelona defender Santos, who spent last year on loan at Nice, is the subject of a £13m West Ham bid while discussions over the transfer fee for Lazio winger Felipe Anderson is still being negotiated.

The Verdict

West Ham are clearly trying to bolster their defensive options this summer and Mawson would add solidity and reliability to the back.

What he can offer that Diop and Santos cannot is Premier League experience - West Ham know that Mawson is good enough to play at the back for them in the top flight.

Fabianski is also a good temporary option for West Ham between the sticks, providing a solid base for at least one or two years before they find their long-term solution in that department.
