West Ham United are planning to use defender Winston Reid, to help secure the signature of Leeds United’s Chris Wood in the upcoming transfer window, reports Football London.

The Hammers are reportedly interested in taking the Sky Bet Championship’s top goalscorer to the Olympic Stadium, but are expecting to face stiff competition from their Premier League rivals to sign Wood.

However, West Ham plan to use Reid’s international connection with Wood to convince him to move to London.

Both Reid and Wood are New Zealand internationals, with the former captain of the All Whites.

Wood has bagged 28 goals across all competitions this season, including 25 in the Championship, which has inspired Garry Monk’s Leeds to a promotion challenge.

The Whites have competed for a place in the Play-Offs for large parts of the season, but four defeats in April have led to Leeds slipping out of the top-six.

Monk’s side are currently seventh, three-points behind sixth-placed Fulham.

If Leeds are to break back into the top-six in their remaining two league fixtures, they are in desperate need for Wood to rediscover his goalscoring form, with the 25-year old scoring just once in his last six appearances.
