West Ham United are focusing on bringing Alfie Mawson on board, with the Hammers the favourites to sign the Swansea City centre-back.
According to Alan Nixon, often a reliable source on social media, Swansea will sell Mawson, with a lot of West Ham’s focus on securing a deal for the defender ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.
The 24-year-old has been with Swansea for two years now, making 71 appearances for the club across all competitions.
65 of those came in the Premier League, with Mawson establishing himself as one of England’s most promising defenders over the last 12 months.
Despite Swansea’s relegation back into the Championship, Mawson impressed, with the defender ever-present in the Premier League.
In those 38 appearances, Mawson scored two goals and registered an assist.
Currently, the centre-back is part of Graham Potter’s squad, who are preparing for a return to the Championship, but West Ham, amongst others, are looking to lure him away from Wales.
West Ham are embarking on a new chapter next season, with Manuel Pellegrini taking charge ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.
Mawson is a classy defender, who is sure to attract interest as the month ticks on.
He showed in the Premier League that he could be consistent, which is sure to alert a lot of clubs.
It’ll be a blow for Swansea if they lose Mawson ahead of their Championship return, but any fee received should be enough to reinvest in the playing squad.
