West Ham are on the verge of making their first of two potential EFL signings this week - with Watford defender Craig Dawson close to completing a move to the London Stadium, according to Claret & Hugh.

Dawson still has just under two years remaining on his deal at Vicarage Road, but wants to remain in the Premier League and the report believe that the Hornets are desperate to get the 30-year-old's £35,000 per-week wages off their current bill.

The centre-back joined from West Brom last summer and made 30 appearances in all competitions, although he couldn't save Watford from suffering from relegation.

Dawson's only involvement this term came in their recent embarrassing EFL Cup defeat to League Two Newport County and he was left out the squad completely for the 1-0 loss to Reading prior to the international break.

Can you name these 15 ex-Watford centre-backs?

Claret & Hugh suggest that Dawson has already agree personal terms with David Moyes' side and is expected to make the short move across London for around £2m-£3m in the coming days.

The Hammers are also expected to sign Brentford star Said Benrahma - with a medical reportedly going to take place on Wednesday, according to this report.

The Verdict

West Ham have recovered from a poor start to the campaign by beating Wolves and Leicester in recent matches, but they're in desperate need of some reliable defenders.

The Hammers had the fifth-worst defensive record in the Premier League last term and Dawson would be a solid shrewd for Moyes.

As for Dawson, he'll no doubt increase his wages and have every chances of becoming a regular starter.
