Premier League sides West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers have held talks with the agent of Salomon Rondon, regarding a potential summer transfer.

The Venezuelan forward looks set to leave West Bromwich Albion this summer, and it is believed that the 29-year-old has a £16.5million release clause in his current deal at the Hawthorns.

The powerful striker endured a hugely impressive season on loan with Newcastle United last time out, scoring 12 goals in a total of 33 appearances for Rafa Benitez's side.

However, it seems as if West Ham and Wolves have made the first steps in the race to sign Rondon, with the Chronicle claiming in a live Q&A session that both clubs have held talks with the player's agent.

Rondon has endured a difficult time at West Brom since his arrival from Zenit St. Petersburg, and after the Baggies failed to win promotion to the Premier League, he looks increasingly likely to depart this summer.

Newcastle will be keen to re-sign the forward, but the lure of Europa League football at Wolves could be too much to turn down.

The Verdict

I think that wherever Rondon moves to this season, West Brom are definitely the winners in this transfer deal.

Receiving £16.5million for a player that is no longer of any use to them is a fantastic piece of business, and the funds will be beneficial for whoever takes charge of the Baggies next season.

I can see him moving back to Newcastle, should their takeover go through this summer.
