Premier League Watford have become the latest side to join the hunt for Fulham captain Tom Cairney, reoprts the Watford Observer

Cairney has been instrumental in pushing his side up the Championship table and has attracted attention from West Ham and Newcastle, in addition the recent Hornets development.

27-year old Cairney is rumoured to be worth in the region of £20m, a fine return on the £4.2m that Fulham paid Blackburn for his services in 2015. If Fulham were to earn promotion this season, Cairney might opt to remain at Craven Cottage, but if they fail to do so a move into the top flight looks likely.

Cairney came through the youth ranks at Leeds, before being released at 16 for 'being too small'. Since then he's played for Hull as well as Blackburn and Fulham, arguably having his best season this campaign and earning a call up to the Scotland squad.

He's currently made 26 appearances, scoring three times including the Cottager's opener this weekend against QPR.

The Verdict

Tom Cairney has been excellent for Fulham and there's little wonder he's been heavily linked with a move into the Premier League.

If Fulham go up I'd wager he stays put, they're assembling a fine squad capable of holding their own.

If they don't, expect him to move on for a huge fee, benefitting their promotion push next season.
