Derby County are preparing for a big month in the transfer market.

While signing news players will be a priority it also seems likely that they’ll be facing a big challenge to keep hold of one of their young stars.

Reports from The Irish Mirror have claimed that Jason Knight is attracting interest from the Premier League.

Described by Wayne Rooney as someone who reminds him of himself, The 19-year-old burst onto the first team scene last season and has now established himself as a first team regular under Wayne Rooney at Pride Park this term.

Burnley had previously been linked with a move for the midfielder, however fresh reports have claimed that Crystal Palace and West Ham United are now set to enter the race.

It’s claimed that Derby could be preparing for a bidding war – something that could be very interesting to watch as the January transfer window unfolds.

16 questions about Wayne Rooney that Derby County fans may struggle to get correct – Can you get full marks?

What year was Wayne Rooney born?

The Verdict

It’s no surprise at all to see Jason Knight attracting such interest.

The midfielder is arguably one of the hottest prospects in the Championship right now and it seems inevitable that he’ll be playing in the Premier League before too long.

Whether that move is plausible right now, however, remains to be seen.

Knight needs to be playing regular first team football – something that he’s certainly getting in abundance under Wayne Rooney.

If he can keep improving then a move to the top flight will come, but for now it could be a bit premature.
