West Ham United are reportedly trying to hijack Burnley’s move for Bristol City midfielder Josh Brownhill, according to Football Insider.

The 24-year-old has been a key player for the Robins this season and has made 29 appearances, contributing five goals and two assists.

Brownhill is the captain of the club and has been at Bristol City since 2016, making over 100 appearances for the Robins. The central-midfielder has made strides over the last three years, and is now a regular starter.

Lee Johnson and his side are currently in the top six of the Championship, and with 17 games to go one would assume Brownhill’s loss will be a big blow in the race for promotion.

West Ham United are in a relegation battle in the Premier League and sit in 17th place, only outside the relegation zone on goal difference. They have recently signed Thomas Soucek as David Moyes looks to bolster the midfield.

The Verdict

This would be a really good signing for West Ham and someone who could provide them with a lot more energy than they have had.

It will be interesting to see if West Ham hijacking the deal will have an impact on Nahki Wells’ move from Burnley to Bristol City.

Brownhill’s work-rate doesn’t go unnoticed in the side, and Johnson has seen him as a key player in recent seasons. It will be a big blow for the Robins.

The Hammers need improvements, it’s a steep fee to pay but could be one that is pivotal in Moyes’ side staying in the division.
