West Bromwich Albion winger Matty Phillips has claimed that striker Hal Robson-Kanu is the most intelligent player in the Baggies squad.

Robson-Kanu has played a surprisingly important role for the Midlands side this season – scoring 10 times in his 31 Championship appearances.

The 30-year-old is the top-scorer in the Baggies side and has been vital in their promotion push, helping them climb into second in the table.

With both Charlie Austin and Kenneth Zohore arriving at the club in the summer, it looked as though Robson-Kanu, fresh off four goals last season, may struggle for game time.

However, the Welshman has grabbed the opportunities given to him with both hands and become Slaven Bilic's most reliable forward this term.

It appears that the striker is smart both on and off the pitch as, speaking in an interview on the club website, Phillips has claimed that Robson-Kanu is the most intelligent player in the Baggies squad.

He said: "Hal Robson-Kanu. For sure. He’s the most intelligent."

This looks set to be an interesting summer for Robson-Kanu, who is out of contract at the end of the current season and could help West Brom secure promotion only to be released by the Midlands club.

The Verdict

This is a fairly strong claim from Phillips and it is interesting to get this insight into the Baggies dressing room.

It was a resounding answer from the West Brom winger, meaning either the Welshman is very smart or the rest of his teammates aren't.

Robson-Kanu has played a key role for Bilic this season, it is going to be interesting to see whether he is given a new deal – particularly if they're promoted to the Premier League.
