West Bromwich Albion parted company with their manager Darren Moore after Saturday's 1-1 draw with Ipswich, a decision which is viewed by many in the footballing world as a harsh one, but it could prove to be the right one.

Moore, who was in his first job in management, leaves the Baggies fourth in the Championship table, seven points ahead of Bristol City in seventh and with a real chance of finishing the season in the play-off places.

However, a series of poor results and inconsistent performances have cost him.

Albion are without a win in their last three matches and currently find themselves nine points adrift of the automatic promotion places, with ten games to play.

Their last three defeats have all come in crucial games against promotion rivals Middlesbrough, Sheffield United and Leeds, all but ending their hopes of automatic promotion.

Moore has made some questionable tactical decisions such as moving striker Dwight Gayle to a wide position and has also faced criticism from fans for his management style and use of substitutions.

Losing forward Harvey Barnes, who was recalled by his parent club Leicester, was a real blow but despite having good attacking players at his disposal, Moore was unable to solve this issue.

To his credit, Moore's side boast an impressive away record this season and no team in the Championship has won more games on the road.

However, his side have completely lost their way at home, winning just one of their last nine matches at the Hawthorns.

That is not good enough for a side challenging for promotion and this inconsistency has understandably caused both the board and also some supporters to grow frustrated with the manager.

Former Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic is the favourite to succeed to Moore at the Hawthorns and this news is sure to excite West Brom fans.

Jokanovic has an impressive record in the Championship, having won automatic promotion to the Premier League with Watford in 2015 and guided Fulham to the top flight via the play-offs last season.

The decision to sack more is undoubtedly a harsh and a risky one, but it looks like it could prove to be the right one, if the board can succeed in bringing Jokanovic to the club.
