West Bromwich Albion defender Conor Townsend has insisted that the players have to use their result against Leeds United as a platform to build from going into second half of the season.

The Baggies have made a very promising start to the season under Slaven Bilic and are currently second in the Sky Bet Championship table - behind Leeds on goal difference.

Albion missed the chance to return to the top of the table yesterday, as they were held to a 1-1 draw by the league leaders in a pulsating top-of-the-table clash at The Hawthorns - with Semi Ajayi scoring at both ends.

West Brom went into the game after some disappointing results - the team had taken just two points from their previous three matches - but they were able to produce a good performance against the league leaders.

Following the game, West Brom defender Townsend, who replaced the injured Kieran Gibbs in the first half yesterday, has admitted that results over the past few matches have not been good enough.

Speaking to the club's official website, the 26-year-old said that he was very pleased with the performance against Leeds, but insisted that the players have to build on it going into the second half of the season.

The Verdict

I think Townsend is absolutely right. West Brom have been excellent so far this season, but their performances over the past few matches have been well below the high standards they have set so far this season.

Bilic would have be looking for a positive response from his players against Leeds following their disappointing performance against Middlesbrough in the previous game and he can be very pleased his side's display.

Even though they didn't win the game, West Brom played well and they should be happy with a point against a very good Leeds side. As Townsend says, the players have got to make sure that they use this result to start building some momentum again.
