Brentford missed out on promotion into the Premier League, after being beaten by Fulham in the Championship Play-Off Final at Wembley.

Joe Bryan scored a brace in extra time to give the Cottagers a two-goal lead, before Henrik Dalsgaard made it a nervy finish for Scott Parker's side.

But they held on to book their spot back in the top-flight next season, where they'll be hoping to avoid an immediate drop back into the second-tier.

Brentford had promotion in their hands towards the end of the league campaign, but they cracked under the pressure at crucial stages of the season.

This resulted in West Brom claiming second spot in the Championship, as they won promotion into the Premier League under the management of Slaven Bilic.

Baggies forward Charlie Austin certainly didn't hold much sympathy for Brentford after their defeat in the play-off final though, as he issued a one-word message after the match.

Austin made () appearances for West Brom in all competitions during the 2019/20 season, and will be hoping that he can feature regularly in the Premier League next season for the Baggies.

The Verdict:

Brentford fans will hate this.

The Bees blew a golden opportunity to win promotion into the Premier League, and they ultimately couldn't handle the pressure in the race for promotion.

West Brom weren't at their best, but they got over the line in the end, as they drew with QPR on the final day of the 2019/20 season.

It'll be interesting to see how Brentford respond to this play-off pain though, as I'm expected multiple departures during the summer transfer window.
