West Brom will be pushing for a Premier League return in the coming nine Championship fixtures, when the season can resume.

Slaven Bilic’s side have been going toe-to-toe with Leeds United at the top of the Championship table this season, with the pair now sitting in a strong position to finally put Fulham’s automatic promotion push to an end.

Key to the Baggies’ form this season has been Romaine Sawyers in the midfield, with the ex-Brentford man arriving at the Hawthorns and becoming an instant hit in Bilic’s engine room.

The 28-year-old has made 33 appearances, scoring once and assisting another, yet, his game is about much more than that; he controls the tempo and runs things with his passing.

Recently, it has been pointed out on Twitter that Sawyers’ pass completion is above 90% so far this season, which has prompted Charlie Austin to comment on his midfield teammate.

Taking to his own Twitter platform, Austin issued a five-word verdict:

Amongst West Brom’s remaining fixtures, when the season can resume, are clashes with Brentford and Fulham, two clubs battling just below the Baggies in the play-off picture.

The Verdict

Sawyers has been a great addition at West Brom, with the midfielder bringing a calm to the Baggies’ play alongside Jake Livermore in the midfield.

He’s helped West Brom become genuine top-two contenders after finishing in the play-offs last season, and if Bilic’s side take that step back into the Premier League, a lot of it will have come down to Sawyers’ return to the Hawthorns.

The 28-year-old is rated highly across the Championship and, clearly, within the Baggies’ changing room.
