West Bromwich Albion have made an excellent start to the Sky Bet Championship season under Slaven Bilic and have put themselves in a brilliant position to win automatic promotion.

The Baggies are currently second in the league table - only behind leaders Leeds United on goal difference - and are nine points ahead of the team in third.

There's still a long way to go, though and there are those who feel that Bilic may want to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window, in order to give his side the best possible chance of returning to the Premier League.

The transfer window is just a few days old and unsurprisingly, Albion have already been linked with several players. With this in mind, here is a round-up of the latest transfer stroies involving the Baggies...

Zain Westbrooke

West Brom are one of a number of Championship clubs thought to be interested in signing Coventry City ace Zain Westbrooke. The 23-year-old has been a key player for the Sky Blues this season, scoring four goals in 19 league appearances.

The highly-rated midfielder is out of contract at Coventry at the end of the season and a TEAMtalk claim that West Brom, along with their second-tier rivals Nottingham Forest and Derby County, are keen on signing him.

Sky Sports Transfer Centre (06/01, 10:55) also reported that Leeds United, Cardiff City and Bristol City are interested in the player.

Ivan Lepinjica

According to a recent report from Croatian outlet TPortal, West Brom and Leeds United are interested in signing defensive midfielder Ivan Lepinjica from Croatian top-flight side HNK Rijeka.

The 20-year-old is regarded as one of the best young talents in Croatian football.

The highly-rated youngster has made five appearances for Croatia’s Under-21 side and is also attracting interest from Premier League sides Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

Lyle Taylor

Sky Sports reported back in December that West Brom are interested in signing Charlton Athletic striker Lyle Taylor this month and according to recent reports, Charlton are now prepared to sell the attacker.

The 29-year-old has scored 32 goals in 58 appearances for Charlton, but with his contract at The Valley set to expire at the end of the season, he has attracted interest from a number of clubs - including the Baggies.

Charlton were hoping to get the striker tied down to a new long-term contract, but according to the South London Press, the club have withdrawn their contract offer and will consider any offers they receive for him in the transfer window, which could open the door for Albion to sign him.
