West Brom are expected to see off competition from Wigan Athletic to sign Chelsea youngster Omari Hutchinson.

The talented 19-year-old is highly-rated at Stamford Bridge and even featured for Graham Potter's side in games against Manchester City in the league and the FA Cup earlier this month.

However, he is understandably way down the pecking order with the Blues, so a loan is seen as the best next step for his development and it was revealed earlier that the Latics had rivalled Albion in trying to sign the attacker, who can play down either flank.

And, The Athletic have now confirmed that the Baggies are in the driving seat to land Hutchinson, with the deal expected to go through before the 11pm deadline.

They state that the final obstacle is for the player to pass his medical, whilst the update interestingly adds that Hutchinson had been subject of interest in Europe as well.

Carlos Corberan had wanted to bring in a midfielder and an attacking option before the deadline, with Hutchinson covering the latter and Nathaniel Chalobah the new recruit to beef up the midfield.

The verdict

This is an exciting addition for Albion as Hutchinson is regarded as one of the top talents in the country at his age, which is why he has been involved with the first-team at Chelsea.

So, this is a real coup for West Brom and they are getting a player who will provide them with a bit more unpredictability in the final third.

It's a great move for Hutchinson as well as he looks to make his mark in competitive football and it will be interesting to see how he does.
