Semi Ajayi has been a regular in West Bromwich Albion's first-team squad this season and is really starting to prove his worth after a string of good performances.

The defender signed from Rotherham in the summer after they were relegated to League One following a poor season.

His skill set has seen him excel in the Championship and he was arguably Rotherham's best player week after week during the 2019-2020 campaign. The 25-year-old proved that he is only going to get better, and is now showing that the Baggies have made a shrewd piece of business bringing him to the club in the summer.

Now that the defender is playing with better players around him, he seems to be growing not just in his own personal game, but in terms of his confidence. Ajayi was excellent against Fulham in the Baggies' 1-1 draw on Saturday and even found himself on the scoresheet.

It was a late equaliser and meant that West Brom became the only team in the Championship to keep an unbeaten run going into the eighth game of the season next weekend.

Ajayi was also a rock at the back and became one of few defenders in the league so far this season to keep striker Aleksander Mitrovic quiet. His performance was so good that he earned the plaudits of Baggies manager, Slaven Bilic, after the game where he claimed the defender was 'marvellous'.

The player is also a Nigerian international who has featured a number of times for his country at senior level, picking up valuable experience on the way. It's proving to be one of the Championship signings of the summer both in terms of value and general performance.

It'll be interesting if he can keep it up, but he's forming quite the partnership with West Brom defender, Kyle Bartley, and those centre-back pairings are so vital for sides looking to earn a place in the Premier League, something Bilic's side will be aiming for.

Surprisingly, West Brom are yet to keep a clean sheet this season despite being unbeaten, which shows their firepower in attacking positions as well. This is something Ajayi will be hoping he can earn sooner rather than later, as you never want to be a side who always feel they might concede.

There's the perfect opportunity to get his and West Brom's first clean sheet of the season when they take on a winless Huddersfield side next weekend.
