West Brom striker swap could be on the cards despite PL club’s latest transfer development

Newcastle United will still move for Salomon Rondon, despite the expected arrival of Yoshinori Muto, The Chronicle reports.
The imminent signing of Muto does not spell the end of Newcastle’s interest in Rondon, who they want to replace Fulham target Aleksandar Mitrovic at St James’ Park.
Newcastle could offer West Brom the chance to sign Dwight Gayle in a loan swap deal which sees Rondon join Rafa Benitez’s side.
This idea was touted recently but Newcastle were reluctant to lose Gayle.
However, Muto is expected to finalise a move from Mainz and this could leave Gayle surplus to requirements.
Whether the 28-year-old is willing to drop into the Championship again remains to be seen but he scored 23 league goals in the 2016/17 season to help Newcastle win promotion.
Rondon scored seven Premier League goals last season, and a further three in the cup, but Benitez likes the idea of having the 6ft 1in physical centre-forward as the focal point of his attacks.
The two clubs remain in talks but this move depends on whether Gayle can agree personal terms over a move to West Brom.
The Verdict
Gayle would be a superb signing for the Baggies as he is the proven Championship goal scorer that any promotion chasing side would dream of having.
While he is not likely to win headers, he is a poacher and he knows where the net is.
This move works for all parties and West Brom should make this their transfer priority in the coming days.
