West Brom have opened talks with Lincoln as they consider appointing Danny Cowley as their new manager.

Albion suffered play-off agony earlier this month as they lost out to local rivals Aston Villa for a place in the final, meaning they will be gearing up for a second consecutive season in the Championship.

The end of the season for the Baggies also signalled the end of Jimmy Shan's time in charge after he replaced Darren Moore as caretaker.

So, the search is on for a new boss and journalist Nick Mashiter has confirmed that talks are underway with The Imps for their highly-rated 40-year-old manager: "West Brom ploughing on with managerial search. They have opened talks with Danny Cowley. One of four on their managerial shortlist."

Cowley has been extremely successful at Sincil Bank, guiding Lincoln to two promotions in three years, which includes winning the League Two title this season.

It had been reported last week that Middlesbrough were also keen on speaking to Cowley about their managerial vacancy.

The Verdict

West Brom fans will be glad to see that some progress is being made and Cowley does seem like he would be a good fit for the club as they prepare for a summer of change.

The chance to make the step up to the Championship is going to appeal even though he is loved at Lincoln.

With Boro also sniffing around it will be interesting to see how this plays out but you would say whoever does land the former Braintree Town boss has made a shrewd appointment.
