West Bromwich Albion are now focusing on recruiting a winger after tying up a deal for Nathaniel Chalobah, according to journalist Tom Collomosse.

It previously looked as though they were on the prowl for several midfielders, with Nottingham Forest's Lewis O'Brien being linked with The Hawthorns, a transfer story that came as no real surprise considering Carlos Corberan previously worked with the 24-year-old at Huddersfield Town.

However, Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas believes the Baggies have now pulled out of the race for ex-Terrier, who is currently the subject of interest from other clubs anyway.

They were also linked with a move for Aston Villa's Marvelous Nakamba - but he looks set to link up with Luton Town after travelling down south to undergo a medical.

Instead of looking for another central midfielder, with Okay Yokuslu, Jayson Molumby and John Swift available as three other options in the middle of the park along with Chalobah, Corberan is now reportedly focusing on bringing in a winger.

This news comes after Matt Phillips was all but ruled out for the remainder of the campaign, leaving Albion with one fewer option out wide.

Corberan has hinted that Phillips' absence could have an effect on the Baggies' transfer plans, although it's currently unclear whether they will be able to add another option in this area before the transfer window closes.

The Verdict:

They have plenty of room to bring in loan players - and that's ideal for Albion with finances likely to be tight after taking out an eight-figure loan to deal with the costs of running the club.

If they are to bring in a young Premier League player temporarily though, they will need to be guaranteed a decent amount of game time and they may not get that considering they already have some decent wing options.

Jed Wallace is unlikely to come out of the starting lineup and Grady Diangana can be a real asset at this level when on form, so a loan signing would need to push hard to displace one of those two.

Karlan Grant and Adam Reach also have to be considered as potential wing options, with the former able to be a real threat in the final third.

You can understand why Albion may want to bring in another wide player though - because this player could potentially come in and be a real game-changer in attack - potentially helping the Baggies to retain their consistency as they look to seal a return to the Premier League at the second time of asking.
